Operation Remembrance
Thousands of ribbons. One powerful message: We remember.
Date: Monday, April 7 to Sunday, April 27, 2025
We invite you—our museum guests, staff, volunteers, and community groups—to participate in Operation Remembrance.
By tying a ribbon on the USS Midway Museum’s flight deck, you will honor the 60,000 American service members who lost their lives in the Vietnam War and those who remain Missing in Action (MIA) or were Prisoners of War (POW). Yellow ribbons will symbolize those lost, and black ribbons will represent those still MIA or held as POW.
If you are unable to tie a ribbon in person, we will tie a ribbon for you, with care and gratitude. Please share the name of someone you’d like to remember on the USS Midway Museum's Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn, or email us at social@midway.org, and their ribbon will join thousands on our flight deck.
This powerful and immersive tribute, featuring 60,000 ribbons, will visually represent sacrifice, hope, and remembrance, honoring the fallen and the refugees who sought a new future. Join us in keeping their legacy alive.
The ribbons will become a prominent element of Midway’s 50th Anniversary of Operation Frequent Wind event on April 27, 2025. Tickets are sold out, but please join us via our event livestream.

The USS Midway Museum Presents Operation Frequent Wind
Considered by many to be the 30 most dangerous hours on board the aircraft carrier USS Midway, Operation Frequent Wind was one of the largest rescue missions in US history. As the communist-led North Vietnamese Army invaded Saigon, the US Navy was called in to rescue thousands of South Vietnamese citizens trapped in the capital city. Waiting for them on the USS Midway was Vern Jumper and then Captain Larry Chambers who worked tirelessly to save thousands of lives.
