Ship Repair and Structural Restoration Supervisor

This position is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all lift equipment aboard a ship through regular preventative maintenance and inspections. The role involves troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems of lifts to minimize downtime and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Additionally, the position oversees the structural restoration of the ship, including repairs to the hull, decks, ship plumbing, voids, tanks and confined spaces.

Status: Full Time with 100% medical & dental, 403b with match, vacation, sick and holiday hours.

Schedule: Monday – Friday 7 am – 3:30 pm with flexibility to work weekends/evenings as required

Pay rate: $34.00 - $38.00 per hour. The pay rate offered will be commensurate with education and experience.

  • Accurate and up-to-date records and documentation for all maintenance, inspections, and repairs, supporting audits and internal reviews.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, create, manage and maintain critical and required industrial safety and material programs and equipment associated with welding, ship plumbing, voids, tanks and confined spaces.
  • Maintain Preventative Maintenance System documentation, inspection and lift equipment, both small scale man lifts to large scale forklifts that supports heavy lifting from a pier to aircraft elevators or handling material in an aircraft carrier hangar bay and flight deck.
  • Maintain and oversee ship’s proper ballasting, tank levels, regular tank inspections.
  • Key point of contact as the subject matter expert to ensure program compliance, procedures and daily maintenance readiness with installed firefighting detection, flooding alarm systems, staff training, and confined spaces which includes proper gas free engineering.
  • Provide deck plate technical leadership and mentoring of ships engineering staff in carrying out daily repair/maintenance projects, the daily operations of aircraft elevators, cargo elevators and safety requirements.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

 Education/Experience: 

  • Computer skills to include proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Ability to lead, prioritize, provide daily management to employees and develop long term planning/recommendations for senior leadership/management.
  • Meticulous ship repair skills.
  • Competent person in Confined Space Training
  • Knowledge in ship/maritime hull structure, compartments, engineering systems, structural design and equipment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Can create clear and concise instructions as well as provide clear and detailed guidance to staff.
  • Accurate and detail oriented.
  • Ability to deal effectively with deadlines and time pressures.
  • Self-motivated and problem solve without supervision. Exercise outstanding initiative.

Working Conditions:

  • Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed on board an aircraft carrier.
  • Physical Requirements: Constant climbing up/downstairs and ladders up to 200ft elevation; work in small places i.e. tanks and voids, bend stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift and carry up to 50 pounds; reach both above and below shoulder height.
  • Equipment Operated: Aircraft elevator, forklift, scissor lift, buffer/scrubber, pallet jack, sand blaster, small power tools and janitorial equipment.
