Guided Island Tour
After months of being under renovation, Midway's Island has reopened!
Led by one of Midway’s world-class volunteer Docents, enjoy a special tour of the ship's Island - the command center for Flight Deck operations and the ship as a whole.
Midway’s Guided Island Tour takes you up serpentine ladders through the ship's navigation and flight control sections. Expert Midway Docents will lead you through and explain Air Operations, Pri-fly, the Navigational chart room, the Captain’s Bridge, and the Captain’s at-sea cabin.
Visitor Tip: Due to tight spaces, this tour has limited capacity. You should take this tour as early as possible during your visit. Lines for this tour close as early as 3:30 p.m. on busy days.
Junior Pilot Program
The perfect onboard activity for families with youngsters!
Follow Airman Sam Rodriguez as he takes you and the youngsters on an amazing and entertaining audio tour of more than 30 locations throughout the aircraft carrier. Once the kids complete Sam’s tasks, one of Midway’s volunteer Docents will award them their Junior Pilot Wings!
Kids, here’s how you can earn your wings: First, visit our Information Booth by the onboard entrance to pick up one of Sam’s activity sheets. Next, follow the instructions on the sheet, which will take you around the ship, and answer each one of Sam's questions. After your tour is done, show your finished sheet to the Docent working the Information Booth, and he or she will present you with your Junior Pilot Wings!
Questions? Ask our volunteer Docents, who are easily spotted in yellow hats.
Good luck, and have fun!
Catapult & Trap Talks
Learn how the aircraft landed and took off from Midway's carrier decks from our volunteer Docents who have done it!
Launching off and landing on an aircraft carrier is one the most dangerous and exhilarating experiences for a Navy pilot. Our expert Docents, many of them former Navy pilots themselves, explain the difficult process of taking off (catapult) and landing (trap) on the short Flight Deck of an aircraft carrier.
These Catapult and Trap Talks are given daily on the Flight Deck during normal museum hours and are included with the price of admission.
