Payroll/Accounting Clerk

Position Summary:
The Payroll/Accounting Clerk is responsible for accurately processing payroll, onboarding employees in the payroll system, entering personnel and benefit changes, and general accounting duties.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for 200+ employees.
- Ensure garnishments, levies, and child support orders are entered into ADP.
- Generate manual checks in a timely and accurate manner.
- Troubleshoot timecards, profiles and settings in Time & Attendance software.
- Manage the process for on-boarding new hires into ADP Workforce Now, entering personnel changes and personnel transactions.
- Administer benefit enrollment process in ADP for new employees and open enrollment.
- Coordinate changes with insurance carrier and reconcile benefit invoices for Accounts Payable to process.
- Assist with audits related to payroll and accounting.
- Responds to external requests for information including EDD, employment verifications, workers compensation.
- Reports workers compensation claims and handles all requests for information from the insurance carrier.
- Perform daily accounting operations including cash management, receivables, payables, and general ledger functions.
- Process and manage data for journal entries.
- Update templates to import transactional data to the accounting system.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for operating bank account and all other cash, savings, and investment accounts and related journal entries.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma
- 1-2 years’ experience in payroll and/or accounting roles
- Experience with ADP Workforce preferred.
Skills/Abilities
- High proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and ability to learn new systems with ease.
- Ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals in a professional manner.
- Ability to handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality.
- Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a self-initiating business environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Working Conditions:
- Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed aboard the USS Midway in former administrative offices restored to basic working conditions.
- Physical Requirements: Sit for long periods of time. Ability to climb up and down stairs and ladders; to bend, stoop, and lift standard office supplies and small office items.
- Equipment Operated: Computer, facsimile, printer, scanner, telephone.
- Pay: The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00 per hour. The pay rate will be determined by your related education and experience.
