A-1 Skyraider
The A-1 Skyraider was the Navy’s last propeller carrier bomber and was the only naval aircraft to fight in Korea and Vietnam. Because of its massive payload of bombs, rockets, and cannon and its ability to stay over the battlefield for hours,
Skyraiders were especially valued for close support of ground troops. Rarely, though, A-1s were pitted against MiGs. On June 20, 1965, four Midway Skyraiders tangled with North Vietnamese MiGs, downing one and escaping without loss.
